One thing we've noticed with new customers and kratom enthusiasts alike is that they all have a "Kratom Story". Some major victories, others just improved quality of life, but all we've heard are stories of serenity. No pun intended... Kinda.
After being asked thousands of times about our first experiences with kratom, we felt the need to give everyone the opportunity know to our kratom stories as the owners of Affordable Serenity. The magnitude of positivity as a result of kratom entering our lives is a main factor as to why Affordable Serenity is in existence.
These are our stories.
Let me start with a little background on how kratom has given me a new lease on life.
As far back as I can remember I had been overweight. In 2012 at 535 lbs, I elected to have weight loss surgery. I got down to 300 pounds, but because I was in so much pain from the abuse caused by years of carrying excess weight, I started gaining weight again.
I was a slave to pain but hated taking pain pills and I hated the way they made me feel. Joshua had been trying to get me to try kratom for about 2 years, but I wanted nothing to do with it because of the stigma that I heard from Big Pharma and the FDA.
On a beautiful California day in March 2016, I finally gave in and gave it a try.
My fiancé, our great nephew, and I traveled to Disneyland. After waiting in the tram lines, we finally got to the admission gates. I paid for our tickets and immediately had to find the nearest bench. My hips, knees, and back were killing me as per usual. My fiancé begged me to try some kratom that Joshua had given her. She told me not to ruin my first time at Disneyland, but more importantly, not ruin our nephew’s first time by having to sit down every 5 minutes.
As it was my only option, I reluctantly gave in and took some capsules with some OJ. We gave it roughly 15 minutes and then ventured into the park.
Then it happened.
It's hard to explain but I felt amazing and was amazed that I was keeping up with our 11 year old nephew. A little confused as this was not normal for me. Typically I would have to sit down again every 10 to 15 minutes because of the pain. That day the only time I sat down was on rides and to eat lunch. My mood was liberating and my pain was gone. That day I received a new lease on life.
When we got back to our hotel that evening, I called Joshua. I told him how amazing I felt and that I wanted to shout it out from the rooftops to let others know about what kratom had just done for me! Joshua had talked to me before about starting his own business and that night I told him that if he was serious about it, I wanted in. I never thought at the age of 51 that I would be helping start a business.
I returned home and sat down with Joshua. We soon found out that we shared the same passion of helping people. So why not help people with knowledge of kratom? Affordable Serenity started to take blossom.
From that day on I started taking kratom regularly and was no longer a slave to pain. I hadn’t worked in 12 years. Who would want to hire someone who couldn’t stand for any period of time or walk any real distance?
I actually felt so good that I felt I could go out and get a job again. I ended up becoming a Maintenance Technician for a 52 unit apartment complex, where I am responsible for the maintenance of the entire property. There are days I walk over 20,000 steps. There is no way I could have done that before trying kratom.
There is a reason I call kratom my miracle plant! I am able to do the things I loved doing when I was younger, I feel amazing, and I am almost 100% pain free! A bonus is that now I am active again that I have slimmed down to a respectable 230 pounds. I can honestly say now that I wish I had listened to Joshua much sooner…
I think if you give our products a try you too will be amazed. Who knows what doors it can open up for you!!
They say that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. I can definitely attest to that. My story has many parts to it especially between why I take kratom, when I first tried kratom, and when I first started taking kratom regularly. I will do my best to paint the picture for you in order.
Just like the beginning of Rodney's story, I grew up big. By big, I mean I was obese at the age of 17. After the unfortunate sudden passing of my grandmother, my family received a wrongful death settlement for the family's pain and suffering. It was an ugly time for us as death isn't an easy thing for anyone to deal with.
My mothers side of the family had dealt with generations of weight issues. To the point where prior to my grandmother's death, she often would offer to take out a mortgage on her house to fund weight loss surgery for my mother.
With the money we received from the settlement, my mother decided to honor my grandmother's offer and looked into weight loss surgery for both of us. The morning of surgery I was 400 lbs at 17 years old. My surgery date was 06/21/2007. The summer before my senior year in high school.
Fast forward to January 2008, we find out one of the reasons why I use and utilize the miracle that is kratom.
Up until this point in my life I could never keep up with my friends due to my weight. The first month after my surgery I lost 50 lbs. Every month after that the weight continued to melt off. For once I could do whatever my friends were doing instead of having to watch from the sidelines. What could happen right?
I never thought an innocent day of snowboarding could cause so much pain. In an attempt of trying to do what my friends had been doing all their lives, I end up hitting a cement barrier at the end of a short steep run without the ability to slow myself down. I did the only thing I could; I braced for impact.
I'll save you the reading of countless doctor office visits and cut to the MRI results. Spinal stenosis, 3 bulging discs, 2 compression fractures in my thoracic spine, and other diagnosis that I couldn't even attempt to spell. In addition to the MRI results, I was prescribed my first prescription for Oxycontin. Along with given the news that this was pain I was going to have to learn how to live from here on out. I was told I was too young for spinal surgery as success rates where typically 5 to 10 years at best.
Though I hadn't ever heard of kratom then, the injuries I sustained that day are major factors in my use of kratom today.
Walking out of that office was the start to a nasty addiction to pain pills. Which over time lead to alcohol and harder drugs. All the while, though I was self medicating, I was in pain.
Fast forward 4 years.
It was December 2012 when I first tried kratom. I was 22 years old living in Los Angeles, CA. At that point in life I had spent 4 years touring and recording around the country as a professional musician. Early 2012 I had the opportunity to audition for a studio gig. I landed the audition and quickly got to work. I was living a dream. From tabloid appearances to outrageous dinners with some of Hollywood's elite. An alcoholic and narcotic coated dream.
One of the more acceptable addictions I had at that time was smoking. As luck would have it, there was a smoke shop down the block from the studio where the band rehearsed. Every other day I was in there buying smokes and as time went on, I gained a rapport with the shop manager.
It was like any other day for me. I had enough smokes to get me through the first practice performance of the 35 song set list we performed sometimes up to four times a day. We finished up the 2 and a half hour set and I stepped out making my way down the block. After paying the manager for my purchase, he handed me a package of Green Vein Maeng Da capsules and told me he wanted to know what I thought. He gave me instructions on how to use it and sent me on my way.
That night we finished another 2 rounds of the set list. In pain, I decided to give it a try.
30 mins after taking some of the capsules I began to realize that for the first time since the accident, I was out of pain. Furthermore, for the first time in my life I was in an optimistically positive mood. There was something about the experience that struck a chord in my heart. I found myself thinking "If this is what I am receiving from this, then everyone should have the opportunity to experience this.". I went back the next day and thanked the manager then started picking his brain about what I had just witnessed. A life changing experience.
Before we fast forward another 3 years, the time between first trying kratom and first using kratom regularly need to be explained.
As cliche as it is, between those two instances, I hit rock bottom. I made a few choice mistakes that led me to becoming a homeless junkie with no regard for myself or others. Somewhere along the way I ended up going to treatment and gaining the knowledge I needed to understand what had gotten me into the pits of addiction. Not only was I using whatever I could to escape the pain of my injuries from the accident but also to mask the feelings of being a worthless failure in life.
I feel the need to preface this:
I do not think kratom would have helped me prior to getting back on my feet. From what I accomplished in treatment I know that not only was it the pain, it was my way of thinking and lack of self love that allowed me to make excuses for my drug abuse. Looking back now, I honestly feel that kratom would not have had such a massive positive effect on my life if given the opportunity while still lost in addiction.
It was three months out of treatment in July of 2015 when I started using kratom regularly. I had gotten my life back on track. I was no longer homeless and was working part time as a clerk at a smoke shop in Spokane, WA. It just so happened to be a smoke shop that doubled as an independent kratom vendor throughout the Pacific Northwest.
From that point on I began to see first hand the power of kratom and a positive mindset. Though I knew the potential kratom had after first trying it in 2012, I began to tell my friends and family what kratom had done for me. Knowing that if it could help me (after I helped myself i.e. treatment), it could help many others.
If you read Rodney's story you will hear about my 2 year relentless effort to provide him the opportunity to see if kratom could help. It was one hell of a challenge but I knew in my heart that it would only take once. All the meanwhile trying to figure out how I could take this passion and turn it in to a life changing experience by helping others.
There are many sub stories to my "Kratom Story". After its all said and done, the instances I've shared with you are just a handful of the many reasons our passion to help others became Affordable Serenity.
